Insight #2 Attracting Your Tribe
I came across this picture the other day on Instagram and although the message “Your vibe attracts your tribe” is such a simple one, it is a very significant one as well.

I want you all to first think of the top five aspects of your being that make up your unique personality. Seriously, just grab the nearest pen and piece of scrap paper and think about what you most often hear from others as being some of your top qualities. These qualities could range from being funny, charismatic, conscientious, empathetic, etc. Write down the five that you most closely resonate with and that you feel describe you the best.
Now, think about the people in your life who you consider to be your top three best friends (don’t worry, you don’t have to make this public like we used to on Facebook, this is just for you to know and no one else). Once you have this list in mind, write out the top three personality traits that each of these people contain. If you’re having trouble thinking of traits that describe your friend just think: how did this person become my friend? What distinguishes them from others? What do I most appreciate about this person’s being?
Once you’ve taken the time to list out these qualities of your friends do a bit of some cross checking with your list of qualities. Are you surprised to find that they are very similar or maybe even different? Whatever the case may be realize that these people are the people who you have attracted into your life. Taking a step further, these people are a direct reflection of who you are or maybe even who you used to be.
Think about it, do you have a friend who you know but yet you can't seem to figure out how the two of you became friends? One day they just appeared in your life and the more you got to know them the more your friendship developed. It's so random how it happens but there is something deeper to realize here. This is the direct manifestation of the simple principle that our world revolves around: like attracts like.

What I mean by this is that if you find yourself complaining about the people in your life, whether they be your family, your close friends, or just the people in the town you live in, realize that, to an extent, they are a reflection of some aspect of your being. The people who appear most in your day to day lives can really help you learn a lot about yourself whether that be your past or present self.
Just as a disclaimer, I am in no way making the statement that all of your friends should be exactly like you because that wouldn’t be fun now wouldn’t it? Instead, I want you all to realize that this is the working of the principle like attracts like. Just look at the organizations on your campus or organizations that you are involved with and you will see that a lot of people are similar in many ways. On the flip side, these people all are unique in their own way which allows for continual growth and understanding of difference.
At the end of the day, everything we need to understand about ourselves is right in front of us because we attract everything that has come into our lives, especially people. The friends, family, people we work with, and even the people we may not have the highest affinity for can all teach us a valuable lesson about ourselves. Develop the consciousness of the principle, “your vibe attracts your tribe” and you will not only learn a lot about yourself but you will soon begin to attract the people you want in your life.
